Barack Obama makes it official; he is running in 2008
Over the weekend the junior Senator from Illinois officially tossed his hat into the already very crowded ring for the Democrat nomination for President in 2008. The very charismatic Obama will face very stiff competition from the money raising machine in Hilary Rodham Clinton.
One of the advantages Obama will have over Clinton is that Obama never voted for the war in Iraq like Hilary did and that will come back to haunt her even in 2008. However, Obama's relative inexperience will be a barrier against Hilary who has been around the political block so to speak.
Obama won't have to fight an uphill battle against the issue of the War in Iraq, since he wasn't in Congress at the time of the vote to give Bush the authority to go to war in Iraq. As a matter of fact, one of the main reasons he won the Senate seat he holds now was because he campaigned on his stance against the War in Iraq.
Hopefully he won't concede to early to Clinton and sticks around for the whole fight and ultimately beats out Hilary for the Democrat nomination.

His Iraq war stand is very commendable and makes him quite attractive. I still find it difficult to fully back him. I still remember hearing him heap praise on Lieberman. That is a tough pill to swallow.
But my vote will go to the "peace" candidate. Too bad the media overlooks Kucinich and his ideas/plans.
Pax,
I agree and that will be plus for him against Hilary, but I don't think that will be enough unless he gives us some bonafide ideas on how to fix the problems that Bush caused.
Surely somebody is going to take her out. She's been too cozy with the 'cons way too many times.
Jollyranger,
We can only hope, she has no good ideas to fix the mess El Shrubo has put our country in and I think that is reason enough to bypass her for our nomination.
I'm glad to hear that he's running, and hope he sticks in there for the whole show. Although Hilary is appealing and may be a first (First Female US President), she is still part of the old network I think.
I am just keeping my fingers crossed desperately that Hilary doesn't get the nomination. ;-)
ariadnek,
I am with you. :)
While I prefer Obama to Hillary, it looks like those two could cancel each other out, leaving Edwards the nomination.
I could seriously live with Edwards, Kurt.
Joined MySpace... Found some links at TechPresident to the MySpace pages of the candidates. During the time I was filling out the forms (6) to ask them to be my "Friend", Obama had accepted and was on my friends list when I refreshed my page.
Edwards is the only one out of 6 that have accepted my invite who sent a 'personal message' --- grin...--- I am sure it is from a staffer but the others just had staffers accepting with no message...
Bill Richardson asks you if you know his last name... He is listed only as 'Bill' on his page... Thought that was interesting... He has not accepted the invite the last time I looked...
I make it easy to see my blog when they visit the MySpace page but find it interesting also if they just accept anyone and deal with the bad apples later...
Just Web 2.0 at it's finest... It's here to stay so we might as well be part of it instead of just observing and bemoaning it's pro and con effects. Just like the netroots we must work with the tools that everyone else uses or we fall behind...
